Some of the best recipes are the ones shared between friends, and this one is a true gem. A huge thank you to my dear friend and respected local teacher, Jody Welsh, for bringing this incredible dip into my life! It strikes the perfect balance between the salty tang of feta and the rich creaminess of cream cheese, all brought together with an aromatic blend of classic herbs. This dip has become my go-to for everything from casual get-togethers to holiday appetizer spreads. It’s effortlessly elegant and disappears from the bowl every single time!

Ingredients

• 4 ounces / 113g crumbled feta cheese
• 4 ounces / 113g cream cheese, softened
• ⅓ cup / 75g mayonnaise
• ¼ teaspoon dried basil
• ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
• ⅛ teaspoon dried dill weed
• ⅛ teaspoon dried thyme
• Assorted fresh vegetables, for dipping (like carrots, celery, bell peppers)
• Crackers or toasted slices of French bread, for serving

Instructions

1. In a small bowl, combine the crumbled feta cheese, softened cream cheese, and mayonnaise.
2. Using a fork or a hand mixer, beat the mixture until it is well-combined and smooth.
3. Stir in the dried basil, oregano, dill, and thyme until evenly distributed.
4. Serve immediately with fresh vegetables and crackers, or cover and chill until ready to serve.

Nutritional Information

• Yield: Makes approximately 1 ⅓ cups
• Prep Time: 5 minutes

Pro Tips

• For an ultra-smooth, whipped texture, use a small food processor or an electric hand mixer instead of a fork.
• Let the dip chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors from the dried herbs to fully meld and intensify.
• Brighten up the dip by adding a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice or a pinch of finely grated lemon zest.
• If you have them, substitute fresh herbs for dried. A good rule of thumb is to use three times the amount of fresh herbs (e.g., ¾ teaspoon fresh basil instead of ¼ teaspoon dried).

FAQ

Q: Can I make this feta dip vegan
A: Yes, you can adapt this recipe to be vegan. Use a high-quality vegan feta cheese alternative, vegan cream cheese, and a plant-based mayonnaise. The texture and flavor will be slightly different but still delicious.

Q: How can I make this dip lower in fat
A: For a lighter version, you can substitute the full-fat cream cheese and mayonnaise with their low-fat or ‘light’ counterparts. Using plain Greek yogurt in place of some or all of the mayonnaise is also a great way to reduce fat and add a protein boost.

Q: Is this feta herb dip gluten-free
A: The dip itself is naturally gluten-free. To keep the entire appetizer gluten-free, be sure to serve it with certified gluten-free crackers, bread, and fresh vegetables.

Q: How long does this vegetarian feta dip last in the fridge
A: You can store this dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days. The flavors will continue to meld, so it often tastes even better the next day. Give it a quick stir before serving.
