Creamy 5-Minute Garlic Tofu Dressing or Dip – vegetarian recipe

This creamy 5-minute garlic tofu dressing or dip is the blender trick I rely on when the fridge is nearly empty but dinner still needs sauce. Tofu does the work that mayo or cream would do elsewhere — neutral, protein-rich, endlessly blendable.

Unlock the secret to the creamiest, most versatile dressing you’ve ever made! Forget everything you think you know about tofu. When blended, it transforms into a luxuriously smooth, protein-packed base for a tangy salad dressing, a savory dip for veggies, or a flavorful spread for your favorite sandwiches. This simple, 5-minute recipe will become your new go-to for adding a healthy and delicious boost to any meal.

Ingredients

• (Makes 1½ cups)
• ½ pound / 227g (8 oz) firm or soft tofu, patted dry
• 2 tablespoons / 30 ml (1 fl oz) fresh lemon juice
• ¼ cup / 60 ml (2 fl oz) olive oil
• 2-4 tablespoons / 30-60 ml (2 fl oz) water, use less for a dip/spread
• 1 tablespoon / 15 ml (0.5 fl oz) tamari or soy sauce
• 2 to 3 cloves garlic, chopped

Instructions

1. Combine all —tofu, lemon juice, olive oil, water, tamari, and garlic—in a high-speed blender or food processor.
2. Blend on high until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy. You may need to pause and scrape down the sides of the container a few times to ensure everything is fully incorporated.
3. Check the consistency. If making a dressing and it’s too thick, add more water, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired thinness. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
4. Transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Nutritional Information

• Serving Size: 2 tablespoons (30 ml / 1 fl oz)
• A great source of plant-based protein from tofu.
• Rich in healthy monounsaturated fats from olive oil.
• Naturally dairy-free, gluten-free (with tamari), and vegan.

Pro Tips

• For an ultra-silky texture, use silken tofu. For a thicker, heartier dip reminiscent of hummus, use firm or extra-firm tofu.
• Boost the flavor by adding fresh herbs like dill or chives, a pinch of smoked paprika, or a tablespoon of nutritional yeast for a cheesy, umami kick.
• For the thickest possible spread, press your firm tofu for at least 20 minutes before blending to remove as much excess water as possible.

FAQ

Q: Can I use silken tofu instead of firm tofu for this dressing
A: Absolutely! Using silken tofu will result in an ultra-smooth and silky dressing, perfect for drizzling. For a thicker, dip-like consistency similar to hummus, stick with firm or extra-firm tofu as the recipe suggests.

Q: How can I make this tofu dressing taste cheesy without dairy
A: For a delicious, savory, and cheesy flavor, add one tablespoon of nutritional yeast to the blender. It’s a popular vegan ingredient that provides a nutty, umami kick and is a great source of B vitamins.

Q: Is this tofu dressing a good source of plant-based protein
A: Yes, this dressing is an excellent source of plant-based protein, primarily from the tofu. It’s a fantastic way to add a protein boost to salads, sandwiches, and vegetable platters.

Q: How long does this homemade tofu dressing last in the fridge
A: You can store this dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The dressing may thicken slightly when chilled, so you might want to give it a quick stir before serving.
