Pro Tips

• DIY Za’atar: Can’t find za’atar? Make your own by combining dried thyme, ground sumac, toasted sesame seeds, and a pinch of salt. Paprika and lemon pepper can also add depth.
• For a Crispier Crust: Preheat your baking sheet or a pizza stone in the oven before placing the flatbreads on it. This helps the bottom cook quickly and become extra crispy.
• Serving Suggestions: Enjoy these flatbreads warm on their own, or serve them alongside hummus, baba ghanoush, or a fresh tomato and cucumber salad.
• Storage: Store leftover flatbreads in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in a toaster or oven for a few minutes to restore their crispness.

FAQ

Q: Is this za’atar flatbread recipe vegan
A: Yes, this recipe is easily made vegan. Most store-bought pizza doughs are naturally vegan, but always check the ingredients list for dairy or eggs. All other ingredients in this recipe, including za’atar, olive oil, and seeds, are plant-based.

Q: How can I add more protein to this vegetarian flatbread
A: To make this a more protein-rich vegetarian meal, serve the flatbreads with a generous portion of hummus, baba ghanoush, or a hearty lentil soup. You can also top the finished flatbreads with crumbled feta (for vegetarians) or toasted chickpeas for a plant-based protein boost.

Q: Can I use a different type of dough for this recipe
A: Absolutely. While the recipe calls for whole wheat pizza dough for added fiber, you can easily substitute regular white pizza dough. For a gluten-free vegetarian option, use your favorite store-bought or homemade gluten-free pizza dough, adjusting baking time as needed.

Q: What is the best way to store and reheat these flatbreads
A: Store leftover flatbreads in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. To bring back their original crispness, reheat them in a 350°F (175°C) oven or a toaster oven for 3-5 minutes until warm and toasty.
