    3 cups navy beans

    9 cups water

    1 onion, chopped

    1⁄2 cup maple syrup

    1⁄4 cup barbecue sauce

    2 tablespoons molasses

    1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

    1 tablespoon chili powder

    1 teaspoon paprika

    1⁄2 teaspoon salt

    3⁄4 teaspoon pepper

    Cover beans in water and allow to soak at least 8 hours or overnight. Drain.
    Preheat oven to 350°F.
    In a large Dutch oven or sturdy pot, combine beans and remaining ingredients. Bring to a rolling boil on the stove. Cover and bake beans for 11⁄2 hours, stirring once or twice. Uncover and cook 1 more hour. Alternatively, beans can be simmered over low heat for 11⁄2–2 hours on the stovetop.
