I gave this appetizer this particular name because I like to imagine my special friends, Kate and Maureen (mother and daughter), preparing them at their family lakeside retreat in Innsbrook, Missouri. A few years ago when Kate and Tom Gunn decided to purchase a piece of property in this spectacular resort area, they called me and asked if I might be interested in helping them design their home there. Working with the Gunns on such a project was not like work at all. I can’t even begin to describe what a privilege this was. The Gunn family’s love has overflowed on me and I count myself blessed to know them.
1 (8-ounce) package refrigerated crescent roll dough
3 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 (2.8-ounce) package real bacon bits
2 tablespoons onion flakes
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Coat two baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray.
Unroll the dough and separate into 4 rectangles. Firmly press the perforations together to seal. Layer each rectangle with cream cheese, bacon bits, and onion flakes. Starting with the short side, roll up each rectangle. Press the edges to seal. With a serrated knife, cut each roll into 6 equal slices. Roll each slice in the Parmesan cheese. Transfer the slices to the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 15 minutes or until the edges are slightly brown. Serve warm.
