    Spiced Nuts

    2 cups walnut halves

    4 tablespoons unsalted butter

    4 tablespoons raw sugar

    2 teaspoons five-spice powder

    Preheat oven to 350°F.
    Place the walnuts on an ungreased baking sheet. Toast for 8–10 minutes, checking frequently near the end of the baking time to make sure they do not burn.
    While the nuts are toasting (about 2 or 3 minutes before they are finished), begin melting the butter on low heat in a frying pan. Add the sugar, stirring to dissolve. Stir in the five-spice powder.
    Add the toasted nuts, and stir to coat. Cook briefly until the liquid is nearly absorbed. Pour the walnuts onto the ungreased baking sheet and separate. Let cool.
