Ingredients

  • 4 (7-inch / 18 cm) pita bread rounds
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml / 1 fl oz) extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Get creative with seasonings! Try smoked paprika, garlic powder, dried oregano, or a sprinkle of za'atar before baking for a flavor boost.
  • For the crispiest chips, ensure the triangles are in a single layer on the baking sheet and not overlapping.
  • This recipe is a fantastic way to use up pita bread that's a day or two old and slightly stale.
  • Store completely cooled chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain their crunch.

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F / 175°C and line a large baking sheet.
  2. Using a serrated knife, carefully split each pita round horizontally to create two thin circles.
  3. Lightly brush the inner, rougher side of each pita circle with extra-virgin olive oil.
  4. Cut each circle into 8 equal triangles, for a total of 64 chips.
  5. Arrange the triangles in a single, even layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Sprinkle generously with salt, freshly ground black pepper, or your favorite seasonings.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the chips are golden brown and crisp.
  8. Serve immediately while warm, or let them cool completely on the baking sheet before storing.
