Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240 g / 8.5 oz) plain, fat-free yogurt
  • 1½ cups / 360ml (12.2 fl oz) skim milk or nondairy milk
  • 1½ cups / 225g (7.9 oz) fresh or frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup (75 g / 2.65 oz) cooked diced beets
  • ⅓ cup (30 g / 1.06 oz) quick oats
  • ¼ cup (30 g / 1.06 oz) unflavored or vanilla whey protein
  • ¼ cup (30 g / 1.06 oz) ground flaxseeds
  • 2 Tbs / 40g (1.41 oz) blueberry preserves
  • To make this smoothie vegan, use your favorite nondairy yogurt, nondairy milk, and a plant-based protein powder.
  • For a fun flavor swap, substitute frozen sweet cherries for the blueberries and use cherry jam instead of blueberry preserves.
  • For an extra thick, spoonable smoothie bowl, use all frozen fruit and reduce the milk to 1 cup / 240ml.
  • If you don't have cooked beets, you can use a tablespoon of beet powder or simply omit them without sacrificing flavor.

Method

  1. Place all into a high-speed blender, adding the liquids first for easier blending. 2. Secure the lid and blend on high until completely smooth and creamy, about 45-60 seconds. 3.
  2. Pour into 4 glasses and serve immediately.
